![]() ![]() I really thought we were making some headway on the insecurities this year but then Friday happened and now I don’t even know what to do.įriday she was in one of her classes after lunch, the kids weren’t really doing anything so they were just hanging out for a few minutes towards the end of class. I feel so bad that she got my body type because I know how horribly insecure I was as a teen and that’s the last thing I wanted for my oldest girl. ![]() I’ve reassured her that it’s completely normal, and that the rest of her body will catch up, and yada yada, but obviously she’s still very insecure about her breasts. Since they grew so so quickly, her skin had trouble keeping up with the breast tissue growth so she has some stretch marks and they’re a little oddly shaped right now. I wasn’t surprised because I went through the same thing in middle school, but it affected her a lot especially since she’s basically the only girl in the entire middle school with such large breasts so she gets stared at and taunted quite often. She went from a training bra to a 38DD within 6 months. I don’t know how to even begin trying to correct the damage of this incident.Ī little relevant info: my 12yo daughter developed very quickly after she got her period last year. We’ll start with our “why” so that we can keep that in mind as we move forward - and really, isn’t the “why” always the most important part? What is the quadratic formula used for? Now that we know how to identify and classify quadratic equations, let’s get into the quadratic formula. The other requirement for a second-order polynomial is that $$a$$ does not equal zero ($$a ≠ 0$$).įun fact: The graph of a second-order polynomial is a parabola! Second-order polynomialsĪ second-order polynomial has all the required elements of a polynomial (variables, coefficients, and exponents) arranged in a very specific format: That’s what puts the “quadratic” in “quadratic equation” - because the variable $$x$$ is squared. What is a quadratic in math?Ī “quadratic” is also a type of problem more specifically, it’s one that deals with squaring a variable, or multiplying that variable by itself. In fact, they’re the only second-degree polynomial equations! Why? Because a quadratic equation is made up of variables, coefficients, and exponents, and the highest exponent is $$2$$. So, quadratic equations are pretty unique - they’re second-degree polynomial equations. Specifically, it’s an equation made up of variables, coefficients, and exponents. That just means that the greatest power (or exponent) in the equation is $$2$$, like $$x^2$$.īut that’s not all: a quadratic equation is also a polynomial equation! A polynomial equation is also a type of equation. Let’s talk about a few: Second-degree equationsĪ second-degree equation is a type of equation, and the quadratic equation is considered a second-degree equation. ![]() That tiny little “$$2$$” is actually hugely important for placing quadratic equations within the greater context of equation types. Maybe you haven’t heard of a variable being “raised to the second power” before, but you’ve heard of a number or variable being “squared” or “raised to the power of $$2$$.” Lucky for you, they all mean the same thing!Ī variable raised to the second power will look like this: But what does that really mean? And how do you recognize one on the page? Ready to learn quadratic equations? What is a quadratic equation?Ī quadratic equation is an equation in which the variable is raised to the second power. ![]() Trust us: giving yourself a little grace will make a world of difference. Quadratic Equations: Formula, Use, Examples, and Solutions ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Cancer in the lymph nodesĬancer can appear in the lymph nodes in 2 ways: it can either start there or it can spread there from somewhere else.Ĭancer that starts in the lymph nodes is called lymphoma. Lymph node swelling is often caused by something other than cancer. Your health care provider will look for more information to figure out the cause of the swelling. Some infections (such as strep throat and chicken pox), certain medicines, immune system diseases, and cancers like lymphoma and leukemia can cause this kind of swelling. When more than one area of lymph nodes is swollen it’s called generalized lymphadenopathy. In most cases, only one area of nodes swells at a time. Some areas where lymph nodes commonly swell are in the neck, groin, and underarms. For instance, ear pain, fever, and enlarged lymph nodes near your ear are clues that you may have an ear infection or cold. Swollen lymph nodes (lymphadenopathy) tell you that something is not right, but other symptoms help pinpoint the problem. When there’s a problem, such as infection, injury, or cancer, lymph nodes in that area may swell or enlarge as they work to filter out the “bad” cells. Some lymph nodes are deep inside the body, such as between the lungs or around the bowel, to filter fluid in those areas. Fluid from the head, scalp, and face flows down through lymph nodes in the neck. This fluid may filter through lymph nodes at the elbow, or those under the arm. Lymph fluid from the fingers, for instance, works its way toward the chest, joining fluid from the arm. Each lymph node filters the fluid and substances picked up by the vessels that lead to it. There are hundreds of lymph nodes throughout the body. They contain immune cells that can help fight infection by attacking and destroying germs that are carried in through the lymph fluid. Lymph nodes are located in many parts of the body, including the neck, armpit, chest, abdomen (belly), and groin. Lymph nodes are small structures that work as filters for foreign substances, such as cancer cells and infections. Lymph vessels send lymph fluid through nodes throughout the body. What are the main functions of lymph nodes? There, lymph fluid collects into a large vessel that drains into a blood vessel near the heart. ![]() Lymph vessels draw up the lymph fluid from around the cells to send it towards the chest. Lymph fluid would build up and cause swelling if it were not drained in some way. ![]() |
